Forrest’s rise to All-American football and his memorable meeting with President Kennedy—highlighted by unlimited Dr. Pepper—inspired a spritz-style cocktail, “Stupid Is, as Stupid Does,” crafted to echo the soda’s iconic flavors with layered liqueurs, bubbles, and spice.   (Recipe Below)

Forrest's speed and single-mindedness leads him into becoming an All-American Football Player which gave him the opportunity to meet President Kennedy.  The most notable part of meeting the President was the unlimited offering of Dr. Pepper.  Forrest's love of Dr. Pepper and his mother's saying that he often repeated, "Stupid is, as Stupid does."  is the inspiration for our first cocktail, "Stupid Is, as Stupid Does".  Staying true to the popular soda, we created a cocktail in Spritz fashion by mixing it straight into the glass.  To get the 23 flavors, we started with Ramazotti Amaro bitter liqueur which is known, perhaps self-proclaimed, to be incredibly similar.  To sweeten the drink, and to bring up the citrus and fruit notes, we added Licor 43, Asti Spumante Sparkling Wine, and a little Vanilla Simple Syrup.  A few dashes of Turkish Tobacco bitters enhanced the warming spices, and topping it off with a bit of soda water really brought in the effervescence we so enjoy when drinking a soda pop.  Incredibly easy to make, even easier to drink and just as remarkable as the popular soda was for Forrest while meeting the President.

  • Ramazotti Amaro

  • Licor 43

  • Vanilla Simple Syrup

Vanilla Simple Syrup adds a recognizable tropical floral sweetness that is buttery, light and brings out the sweetness of other flavors.  It can easily be made by adding White Mexican Vanilla  into simple syrup.

  • Fee Brothers Tobacco Bitters

  • Fee Brothers Cherry Bitters

  • Martini Spumanti Asti Sparkling Wine

    15 proof/7.5% ABV

    Martini & Rossi

A moscato grape wine that has been carbonated resulting in a dessert sweet wine with tree fruit flavor.  The sweet flavor and low ABV make it an easy drinking wine or addition to a cocktail.

  • Sparkling Water

Sparkling water is a great neutral mixer that will lower overall ABV while highlighting the flavor of the spirit.  The effervescence adds a texture and interest of a drink while masking some of the bite associated with grain alcohol.

  • Amarena Cherry

Life Is Like a Cocktail: Forrest Gump’s Journey Through History, Heart, and a Box of Boozy Chocolates

A man waiting at a bus stop recounts his extraordinary life, beginning in the 1950s with his childhood in leg braces and continuing through the 1980s as his story intersects with major moments in American history. Guided by his mother’s simple but powerful aphorisms, Forrest’s honesty, determination, and unexpected speed lead him to success, love, and encounters with presidents, all told in his calm, matter-of-fact style. His fondness for Dr. Pepper and the saying “Stupid is as stupid does” inspire a spritz-style cocktail that echoes the soda’s famous flavors. Another of his mother’s sayings, “Life is like a box of chocolates,” inspires a collection of four boozy chocolate confections, each representing meaningful people and moments from his life. The article celebrates Forrest Gump as an emotionally resonant film about destiny, chance, and human connection, paired with creative drinks and treats that honor its enduring themes.
